A Letter from the Principal and Dean of Students

Dear DES Families,

As we kick-off this new school year here at Douglas Elementary School, we want to extend a warm welcome back to all of our students and families and the warmest of greetings to those students and families who are new to our community. Like most of you, we are excited for the opportunities that await us all in the 2024-25 school year!

COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE

This year, we will continue to focus on fostering an environment that supports academic excellence, personal growth, and a sense of community. We are dedicated to providing a safe and inclusive space where every student can thrive and reach their full potential, and our teachers and staff are working diligently preparing lessons and activities that will consistently inspire and challenge our students.

NEW INITIATIVES AND ENHANCEMENTS

And with a new school year comes new people, initiatives and enhancements. By now, you may be aware of our new student information system called “PowerSchool” that we’ll be continuing to roll out over the next few months. PowerSchool will allow families to view important information such as grades and attendance during our three grade release windows.

Plus, our students will have a new special added to their week: STEM! STEM (an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education), will provide our students hands-on experiences where they can apply learned academic content by creatively solving real-world problems with innovative design-based thinking. Sounds like a pretty cool way to help prepare DES students for future career opportunities. 😀

WANT TO HELP? JOIN THE PTO!!!

We invite you to join the Douglas Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), where your involvement can make a real difference. By participating in the PTO, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with fellow parents and teachers, contribute to exciting events and initiatives, and help shape the educational experience for all our students. If you're interested in getting involved, please reach out to: [email protected] and/or attend one of their meetings as indicated in the school calendar.

COMMUNICATE

Lastly, we greatly value open communication and encourage you all to stay in touch with us throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. Our doors are always open, and we are here to support both students and families in any way we can.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership, and we look forward to working with you to make this school year a great one!

Warm regards,

Mr. Haynes & Mrs. Sullivan
