A Message from the Principal:
To the Douglas Elementary School Families,
This
is my first official outreach to you all as the Interim Principal, and I
cannot convey strongly enough how pleased and proud I am to be doing
so.
I’ve come to learn very quickly that DES is a very special
place. The students are incredibly sweet, polite and excited to learn.
The staff is highly skilled and deeply committed to meeting the academic
and social-emotional needs of the students. And the families I have met
thus far have been incredibly welcoming, supportive and willing to
collaborate with us to ensure and optimize the students’ learning and
overall well-being.
In an email to the staff earlier this week, I
communicated how this stretch of the school year from Day 1 to
Thanksgiving is viewed by many as the most challenging. The children and
staff alike have been working extremely hard over the past few months
and have earned these next few days off, and I sincerely hope you will
take a moment to acknowledge your child/children’s tremendous efforts.
Lastly,
I’ll admit I have always been a big fan of Thanksgiving and the
accompanying break. In addition to the “Four Fs” (Family, Friends, Food
& Football), I greatly value the opportunity Thanksgiving provides
to reflect upon all that I have to be thankful for. And this year, I
promise you all I will be giving thanks for now being the Interim
Principal of Douglas Elementary School and I’d like to thank you for
entrusting me to serve in this role.
Wishing you all a safe and peaceful Thanksgiving,
Ken H.
